TVR Motors was established in 1946 by Trevor Wilkinson. He was 23 years of age at the time the company was started. In 1947 he partnered with Jack Pickard and they started a new company called TVR Engineering. This company was renamed to TVR in 1954.

TVR's first car was launched in 1949 and expectedly it was a 2-seater alloy-bodied car. In 1950s, TVR Engineering produced many different models and one of the most popular versions was Grantura model.

  Trevor Wilkinson left TVR in 1962. His partner, Jack Pickard also left with him to start a new company in fiber-glass engineering.

  The company changed ownership in 1965 when Martin Lilley bought it.Lilley controlled the company until 1981.

  Peter Wheeler became the new owner of company in 1981 and he controllled the activities of TVR until 2004.

  Russian Millionaire Nikolay Smolensky bought it in 2004, and he continues to hold stake in the company as of now.

  German manufacturer Gullwing owns minority stake in the company and unconfirmed reports suggest that it is looking to produce a new model of TVR in 2010.
